Are or is?

The chart, based on Nielsen data, shows how accepting people in different parts of the world are of sharing communities.

I can't understand why there is 'are' ,not 'is' between 'the world' and 'of sharing...'?

And I am not sure if the sentence is grammatically and meaningfully correct.

What do you native English speakers think? Thank you so much as usual in advance.
