Are or have?

Small as it is, the ant is as much a creature as _______all other animals on earth.
A) are?????????????? C) is
B) do?????????????? D) have

The answer is A, I chose D, but I don't understand it. even I don't know how to analyse it. Emotion: sad

the ant is as much a creature as = it is still to be considered a creature, just as = the ant is a creature to the same extent as any other animal.
So the choice must be “are”: the ant IS (a creature) – other animals ARE (not do / have / is).

I agree that A is the only possible answer, but the sentence is not very idiomatic. The 2nd 'as' would not usually command a verb:

'Small as it is, the ant has as much right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as any other creature.'

'Small as it is, the ant is as much a creature of habit as any other animal on earth.'
