Is "on display" in the above interchangeable with "displayed/exhibited/on exhibition?" Thanks.

On display and on exhibition are commonly used for museum exhibits. Personally, I've never heard exhibited or d isplayed in the sort of sentence you quote. Of course it would be readily understood.
