Are object pronouns possible in structures with FOR?

1. The book is easy enough for 8-year-old children to read it. 2. The rock is too heavy for me to carry it.

According to an English study guide published in Taiwan, the above sentences are incorrect. But according to Practical English Usage, the sentences are acceptable. What's your comment?
