Are Not a/an and Not any interchangeable ?

Hello.

Can we always use not a/an instead of not any? (for example I am a doctor, I am not a doctor, I am not any doctor). In what cases we can't use not a/an instead of not any?

I would be grateful for all your help about this thread.

Jesus.

Quite a long explanation about 'a' and 'an', Lisa, but keep in mind that this is not correct:

"You want to use 'an' when the following word begins with a vowel; a, e, i, o, u"

It is the sounds, not the letters, that determine the article: an umbrella, a unicorn, an honor.
