Are my sentences correct

1. I would go to the gym on a regular basis and stick to the plan not only every January as part of my New Year's resolution.

2. I would go hiking with my children and friends. I tried it before and was very disappointed because I did not make it to the top of a hill or a mountain.

Thanks
