Are my personal interpretations of the underlined idiomatic expressions correct?

Are my personal interpretations of the following underlined idiomatic expressions correct? Please let me know. I have just interpreted them based on how the words are creatively used to express a definite idea. If any of my interpretations is wrong, please make it right.

1. I hope that my girlfriend will make a better me. (My personal interpretation: make me a better person)

2. My girlfriend says that she will give me her best. (My personal interpretation: give me the best she can do)

3. My spirit was roused to eternal wakefulness once I gained much knowledge. (My personal interpretation: active as if unable to sleep)

4. When sent for errands, I would set aside my playing with them. (My personal interpretation: asked or assigned to do household chores)

5. My cousin is a bag of bones. (My personal interpretation: a thin or frail person)

6. Sam is the barrel of laughs in our classroom. (My personal interpretation: source of laughter; joker)

7. He wanted to learn to read at any cost. (My personal interpretation: no matter what difficulties he might undergo)

8. Was the mobile phone he bought a steal? (My personal interpretation: a stolen object)

4. "errands" normally involve going to another place, e.g. to collect or deliver something. "household chores" are things done around the house, such as cleaning.

8. "a steal" means something bought at a low price; a bargain.

The others look OK, but note that "barrel of laughs" is often used ironically.
