Are many and much adjectives when they are used before nouns?

For example: I have too many books to carry.

Is the word "many" an adjective in the sentence above?

Top answer

In the most general sense, yes. Modern linguistics splits the class of noun modifiers into distinct categories: determiners, quantifiers, noun adjuncts, articles, and the adjectives. Many is a quantifier.
