Are both sentences OK?

Are both sentences OK? Is there something more common to use than "hit" and "occupied"?

Josh and Daniel have hit the dance floor and left Rob alone at the bar with Jenna.

Josh and Daniel have occupied the dance floor and left Rob alone at the bar with Jenna.
