Are Both of These Sentences Are Correct?

The system will log a user out after 2 or 3 minutes if the user types an incorrect password the first time, then, the user types the correct password to login to the system.

The system will log a user out after 2 or 3 minutes if the user typed an incorrect password the first time, then, the user typed the correct password to login to the system.

1) Are the above sentences grammatically correct?
2) Tee first sentence describes what will happen if the user performed these events at an earlier time. I wasn't sure if the tenses are correct. Therefore, I drafted wrote them two different ways. The first sentence uses future and present tense, and the second one uses future and past tense.

I don't get it. You type an incorrect password, so you try again. The second time, you type the password correctly and the system logs you in.

  • The second time, you type the password correctly and the system logs you in.
  • Then two or three minutes later the system logs you out again?
  • This is how I understand what you've written, but it seems highly unlikely to be what you mean.

The second version is better, but still it isn't very clear. Maybe this is better:

If a user enters an incorrect password and on the second attempt successfully logs in with his correct password, the system will force a logout after 2-3 minutes.

AlpheccaStars, just for my own peace of mind, is it conceivable to you that any system would actually behave in this way? Am I missing something here?

It is exactly my point. It was kind of hard for me to clearly explain it.
