Are these sentences both incorrect?

He did a great job in defending Lebron James.

Sports writers like to say things in somewhat odd ways. I guess the thought is that basketball is played on an area called 'the floor'.

He did a great job in defending Lebron James.
More common than in is on.

Yes, basketball is played on a floor that is why he substituted table for floor.
