Vocabulary

Arduous/ laborious

Hi,

Are 'arduous' and 'laborious' different in meaning?

Is 'arduous' more apt to describe a journey or a trip?

Thanks in advance

Top answer

"arduous" has more of a sense of hard, difficult, tough (either mentally or physically). "laborious" has more of a sense of involving a lot of dull and repetitive effort. Both could be used to describe a journey, but "arduous" seems more likely.
