architecture-related expression/phrases

The two story building is built where the ceiling of part of the first floor is that of the 2nd floor so to give a high ceiling for the ground floor. Anyone that might know a term/phrase for this architectural feature? If not, could you provide a phrase/term (non-architectural jargon) that can describe it? Thank you so very much.

I think you can look up mezzanine and find some examples. Many condominiums and apartments in Canada have such construction. Back in the 1950's Banks had a 2 storey mezzanine (where business was transacted) and many storeys of offices above them.

It also occurred to me that 'cathedral' is another term used to describe a high wall that allows plenty of sunlight on the east side of a building.
