It lives! Some time back, we figured out that a spelling checker was recommending "aquatinted" when it found the misspelling "aquainted" (for "acquainted," naturally). Then we thought maybe the spelling checker was fixed. Nevertheless, today, there are still 7,120 hits on the Web for "aquatinted with" such as the following:
