Aptitude, shoot up

Hi,

1) "I have little aptitude for maths."

"I don't have much talent for maths."

2) Is there another way of saying this? What about: 'I don't have a mindset for maths."?

3) If I felt a sudden pain in my back, could I use the word 'shoot up'? "I felt a sharp pain shoot up in my back."

Thank you.

" Both are good. Ann225 2) Is there another way of saying this? "?

  • " Both are good.
  • Ann225 2) Is there another way of saying this?
  • "?
  • Also OK, but a bit unusual.
  • 'mindset' is a little too all-encompassing to apply just to maths, I'd say.

Use of the phrase "shoot up" here is questionable because it's slang for injecting heroin with a hypodermic needle.
