Approved in 3-month increments?

What's the meaning of "Approved in 3-month increments." in the context of prior authorization criteria for drugs? It's about coverage duration.

Does it mean you can receive the drug for 3 months if you got approved?
I am not sure about what "increments" means here.

Thank you in advance!

I haven't heard this expression. But it sounds to me like you get an approval for 3 months, and after 3 months you have to get another approval for another 3 months. Clive
