He would not approve of his daughter's marriage to a poor man.

My question is whether of here can be omitted since approve can be transitive.

secondly, why approve seems to be absurd since permite and allow can be used in the way of permit/allow sb. to do sth. but approve cannot.

I'm now wondering whether parental consent is still required in the UK (or other countries) if you're under 18.

I believe it's required over here if you belong to certain religions.
