Appropriation

Hi.
Have I used 'appropriation' correctly in:

During the first period, appropriations from the Western painting was curbed, and only a slight amount of silhouetting, three-dimensional drawing, and landscape drawing is seen in the works, whilst the spirit of Persian painting, like the use of perspectives, is still evident in the works.

?Thanks in advance

Yes, although I would make it appropriation from the Western painting was curbed.
