Do both 'have' and 'do' work in the sentence with 'practice round'?

We would like to have a practice round at the lab for the study.

We would like to do a practice round at the lab for the study.

My advisor wrote the sentence with 'do' so I am wondering is 'have' also possible?

Thanks.

The question boils down to whether or not ‘a practice round’ is an action or an event. Do you ‘attend’ it or ‘perform’ it? If you ‘attend’ it then you ‘have’ it; but if you ‘perform’ it, then you ‘do’ it.
