Vocabulary

approach/draw near

Hello,
Do you think that both of them can be used in the following sentences:
- My friend's birthday was approaching/was drawing near and I hadn't picked a present for him yet.
- The date of the election was approaching/drawing near.
- Winter was drawing near/approaching.

They both sound fine to me, but I have a preference for "draw near". Emotion: smile I don't think that "approach" would sound good in the last sentence and I don't know why. Emotion: big smile What do you think?

Thank you in advance
