appreciate it

Is the following form correct:
"I would appreciate it to receive confirmation..."
or is it better to say
"I would appreciate receiving confirmation..."

Thanks
Michel

" . I think you can use both the infinitive and the gerund. You would only use "it" if you had already previously mentioned what would you appreciate, and you were not going to refer it again in this sentence.

I'm not completely sure, but I think the best is either "I would appreciate to receive confirmation..." or "I would appreciate receiving confirmation...". Clive, why isn't "I would appreciate to receive confirmation..." acceptable? I've always thought so.

'Appreciate' is not followed by the infinitive.

The basic syntax is 'you appreciate something', where something is a noun or a noun-equivalent such as a gerund.
eg I appreciate your phone call.
eg I appreciate receiving confirmation.
