Hi,Apple said it would pay a quarterly dividend of $2.65 a share beginning in its fiscal fourth quarter, which starts July 1, and that its board had authorized a $10 billion share buyback starting Sept. 30. In all, Apple expects to spend about $45 billion over three years on the plan, all of the money from cash generated by its United States sales...., all of which will be coming from cash generated by its United States sales.Can this be used instead of the bold part?Thank you in advance.

If you substitute that, the meaning would be the same, but then you lose all "verve" and "excitement" of the original text.  So you cannot substitute it.

Yes, but personally, I don't think that is the intent of the original, though it MAY be. A careful reading reveals this ambiguity. When you say that the money is coming from that cash, it's not the same as saying that the money IS that cash. Either might have been meant.

Intepretation A: They expect to earn $45 billion from iPad sales in the United States alone. And they are going to spend that exact money to pay dividends to their stockholders.

Interpretation B: They expect to earn more than $45 billion from iPad sales in the United States alone. And they are going to spend $45 billion from that cash to pay dividends to their stockholders.

Yes. You have grasped the difference. I think that's all that it is necessary to say. The rest is all a matter of details which are not particularly relevant to your understanding of the syntactic and semantic difference. Nevertheless, I will include further comments on these details.

You know more than I about this because I haven't read the whole article, and I don't remember all the excerpts you've asked about in different posts, nor how they are all related to one another. There is nothing in the quote in this thread about the iPad, so I don't know how that plays into it. Judging only by these two sentences, I would say that we don't know how much Apple expects to earn from iPad sales. It just says "sales". The total sales could be from iPads and other products. And then there's the $10 billion for the share buyback. I'm not a finance expert, so I could be wrong. Nevertheless, I believe they need $10 billion of the sales earnings for this buyback, so only about $35 billion will be spent in paying dividends. But as I said, these details don't matter when our goal is simply to understand that there are two interpretations of the same grammatical structure.
