1. The question how to achieve this lies in my opinion.
2. The question, how to achieve this, lies in my opinion.
3. The question of how to achieve this lies in my opinion.
I just came across sentence 1 on google, and my questions are...
Q1) Are sentences 1,2,3 all correct? I think that 1 is wrong because if "how to achieve this" is used as an apposition of "the question", so it seems like "how to achieve this" should be set off by commas as in 2. Without commas, I think 1 must be written as 3 with the preposition "of". So my answer is that only 2 and 3 are correct. Maybe am I so nitpicky?
Q2) Can even whether or what or why or when-phrase be appositive?
For example,
A. The question, whether it's possible to find the solution, is hard to answer.
B. The question, what is important in finding the solution, is hard to answer.
C. The question, when it's possible to find the solution, is hard to answer.
D. The question, why it is important to find the solution, is hard to answer.
Are these sentences A,B,C,D correct without connecting "question" to "whether, what, when, why" with the preposition "of"?
