Hi, For the doctor, just say to the receptionist I'd like an appointment, please . What other kind of situation are you thinking about? Best wishes, Clive

Hi,

Typically, you would ask his/her secretary, or some other intermediary person. If you want an appointment with George W. Bush, you're not really going to get a chance to ask him directly.

If I did get such a chance, I'd say something like 'Mr. Bush, I'd very much like to talk to you about . . . . . Are you free sometime in the coming week?'
