Apply to be a cashier

I am going to make up a sentence below.

(ex) I want to apply to be a cashier.

This is what I mean. I have read an ad for a cashier job. I am going to send my application for it.

Is it grammatically correct to say "apply to be a cashier"? Thanks a lot.
