Apply the notion of Individuality or collectiveness?

Hi. Please tell me why it would be correct to have the underlined words in the singular. Do the singular "word" and "family" in the following sentences 1 and 2 imply students filling in the sentence frame with their individual words (that is, one word per individual) and men and women praying for their individual families respectively? I hope my question is clear. Thank you in advance for your help.

1. Write the sentence frame on the board and have students fill in the sentence frame with their word.
2. I think revival at the domestic level can only come when men and women pray for their family.
