Application letter need help. Please

Hello everyone! I'm a Master of Science from Germany and I want to apply for a job in Austria. Since the job ad was posted in english i need to send the resume in English too. I am not sure if my sentence structure and the use of tenses are correct. Also i struggle to make it a little shorter. I am thankfull for any comment and advice. Darja

Dear Ms Hansen
Before you discard my resume because I have a Master degree in Molecular Life Science instead of Veterinary Medicine allow me to explain why I decided to apply to this position despite not fulfilling this mandatory requirement.
The focus of my studies was cell biology and for my Bachelor and Master thesis I worked on the viral pathogen Bovine Viral Diarrhoea Virus, which infects cattle. In this way I have experience in working with positive strand RNA viruses, cell cultures, as well as using molecular biology techniques such as cloning, DNA and RNA purification, Western Blot, in vitro RNA transcription and per-forming experiments like cell-based immunofluorescence assays, transfection and electroporation. For both of my theses I developed molecular tools based on the virus genome which were used for further investigations (i.e. a set of viral constructs expressing a fluorescent protein for use in a specific electron microscopy study). I enjoyed working on the above-mentioned projects and therefore want to continue to grow my expertise within similar scope. Your company offers a job profile that covers a stimulating combination of scientific areas and a variety of methods to implement, which makes me very excited to be part of ViraTherapeutics, because I want to help to create new therapies against cancer.
Working on internship projects in the research fields distinct from my prior experience aided me to adapt fast to a new research environment. As an intern and scientific assistant at the Institute for Molecular Cardiovascular Research I was entrusted with various duties ranging from carrying on assigned internship project and preparing experiments within an international collaboration to supervising undergraduate students. I have extended my practical skills conducting gene expression analyses, protein purifications, working with primary cell cultures and evaluating experimental data statistically. This experience assures you I can familiarize myself quickly with the ongoing processes in the company and take over the responsibilities. Living in an intercultural context I am comfortable working and communicating with different people and am willing to use my insight to provide effective collaborative work with your partners. Given the chance I am fully committed to work cooperative and in all conscience.
More information regarding my education and qualifications are highlighted in the attached resume. I am looking forward to meeting with you to discuss my application.

Sincerely,

Darja Afanasiev
