My name is Gregory House. I was rejected by the NTU Economics during this year's admission hence i am writing to you to appeal for a reconsideration of my application.
I inspire to start a career as an analyst in the financial sector. As Singapore has one of the most developed financial sector, is a major trading hub in the South East Asia, it would certainly promise an exciting and challenging lifestyle which i seek.
During my two years in Junior College, i took H2 Economics and H1 Geography (which i scored a B for both subjects for my A level) and had gained some insights on the interconnectedness of our world's economy. After enlisting in the army, i continued to read economic articles and news to statisfy my curiosity and interest in it, especially in the field of international trade. I had followed the major economic news on The Economist and Bloomberg on the US and Europe debt crisis, and the economic problems faced by the emerging markets of BRIC (and recently BRICS to include South Africa). In today's globalised world, the importance of international trade has never been more significant for a country's economic developement. However, this also mean that countries are more vulnerable to external economic events. By studying the relationship between the countries, and their government policies, i hope to understand the roles and importance of each country and how they affect each other in the international market.
Take for example in the precious metal market. With a weakening US economy, the debt crisis within the EU, and the rising inflation in the emerging markets, there is a pesimistic outlook on the global scale, hence investors shifted their investments and wealth to the less risky assets such as Gold and Silver. Also, many governments are buying gold to protect their reserve against the weakening US dollar. As a result, the prices of gold and silver have been trending upwards and hitting record highs in the recent weeks. By studying the relationship between the global economic outlook and gold, we might be able to forecast the price movement of it.
I had also read books from Kathy Lien and Alexander Elder to further my knowledge of trading in the various markets and had found it extremely interesting as most of the fundamental analysis are linked to economic fundamentals. Influence from my siblings, my brother as a trader and sister as a accountant, had also increases my interest on the financial sector, and further encourages me to persue a career towards it.
I understand that it was probably due to my poor GP grade that i was not accepted. To that, i had been working on it to improve my writing skills, such as starting a blog and participating in forum discussion. I am willing to work hard to pursue a degree in economics, something that i have a keen interest on, and hope to widen my views on this world.
I would like you reconsider my application, to grant me an oppotunity to pursue a degree in economic. Feel free to contact me at 123456789. I would gladly accept any interview regarding this matter. I appreciate the time that you have taken to read my appeal and I look forward to your reply
Thank You
Sincerely,
Gregory House
