"I am good" as an alternative to "I am well"? Is this US English? It certainly is wrong in UK English! Indeed, it means either "I behave well", or "I am good at my job/school etc.".

This would be rare, even in the US, in my opinion.
In casual conversation, we might use the single word, "Good." as a reply to a question:
How are you doing? (reply) Good. (fairly common)
How are you feeling? (reply) Good. (less common)
