Apostrophes

My 7 year old's English homework this week was to add apostrophes to sentences to show what belonged to whom. The fourth sentence was " The elephants tails swished to keep them cool". Am i correct in thinking that this sentence does not need an apostrophe? The teacher says the apostrophe should be placed before the 's' on tails. Thankyou!!
