Is the use of apostrophes correct below?

If so, why is it correct?

If not, why is the apostrophe not being correctly used?



Jill’s shorter than Jan.

My name’s Jack.

My hair’s long and silky.

In answer to the "why" it's because the 's is short for "is."

She is, my hair is, etc.
