Can someone put me right on this please, should it be 'Rik Mayall of The Young Ones' fame' .... or .... 'Rik Mayall of The Young Ones fame' ........ anyone?

I believe there is room for disagreement on this one, but I would not use the apostrophe. Wait for other opinions.

Both versions seem awkward to me.

I'd say eg Rik Mayall, famous as a member of The Young Ones, . . . This is simpler, and clearer in meaning.
