Apostrophe and article

Hello,

l would like to know if apostrophe and articles are used correctly in this case (the text is about the distribution of one species of red algae in the Baltic Sea coast, and in order to avoid a repeat of the same Latin name [no common name] in the text l use synonyms: the red alga, the species):

A red alga Furcellaria lumbricalis is distributed in the coastal area of the . The species' cover ranges from 50 to 100%. Vertical distribution of the red alga is between 1 and 15 m depth.

Articles and apostrophes look OK to me, but I would make a couple of other tweaks: A red alga , Furcellaria lumbricalis , [add commas] is distributed in the coastal areas of the Baltic Sea. The species' cover ranges from 50 to 100 percent . Vertical distribution of the red alga is between 1 m and 15 m depth.
