apositives

In the sentence "an epic tale of adventure and heroism, the story of King Arthur is loved by all" is the appositive an "epic tale of adventure and heroism" or is it "the story of King Arthur"?
This was in a grammar website and it said that the "story of King Arthur" is the appositive.

Strictly speaking, the two phrases are in apposition to each other. But I always think that the plain one is not the appositive, and the explanatory one is, so, in this case, "an epic tale of adventure and heroism" is the appositive.
