Apart from

Hi

Apart from dance, she is good at basketball.
I came across this sentence in a magazine. I think it needs a small change. Tell me whether I am right.

Apart from being a dancer, she is good at basketball.

The original sentence is correct, and so is yours. That said, I do prefer "coordinated structures" with "apart from". Apart from being a dancer, she's (also) a basketball player.

  • (this tells us what she is rather than what she's good at)

Thank you, Ivanhr.
I have a doubt with the word also.
When we have "apart from....." is it necessary to use 'also', just as you have pointed out, in the sentence which follows?

It's not necessary but it does make more sense (well, to me anyway).
