Anyways

Hi,

Is the expression "Anyways" used mostly by younger people?

If a boss in the office uses this, does it sound strange?

Thanks,

It's used by pretty much everyone regardless of age or social/economic status. However, it is somewhat informal, so it wouldn't be used while, for example, giving a speech.

Hi guys,

I'm not so sure I'd agree that almost everyone uses it. I tend to think of it as used more by younger people, as originally suggested. It's also nonstandard, so I think that one's speech would seem less that of an educated person if one used 'anyways' very frequently.

Best wishes, Clive

Perhaps it's used more frequently in California. I've heard several 50+ year-old university professors use it.

Also, it's usually said without the "s" here.
