Anything vs something

If you need anything just tell me.
Why can't we use "something" here?
What is the difference?
Thanks

If you need something, just tell me. Here by something we mean a particular thing that is unknown to both the speaker and listener. Does it make sense?

  • But it would make sense if we said: If you need something special, just tell me.
  • Maybe the speaker is suggesting that they are able to provide something that other people normally can't.
