Anyone could kindly explain this sentence to me?

hi,guys. I am reading the "Godfather" by Mario Puzo. the sentence below seems a little complex to me.

It is "He(the Godfather) had long ago learned that society imposes insults that must be borne, comforted by the knowledge that in this world there comes a time when the most humble of men, if he keeps his eys open, can take his revenge on the most powerful".

Anyone could kindly explain this sentence to me, thanks.

Hi, Here's the basic idea. He learned that powerful people treat ordinary people badly. He also learned that ordinary people can get revenge if they wait patiently for an opportunity.
