ANY used in a question

Hello!

I thought I could find examples of a sentence like

"Are they preparing any food?" (referred to, for

example, some people at a party, let's say "my parents").

In fact I couldn't.

Nevertheless I expect it's an acceptable sentence, isn't it?

Thank you.
