Any more than

As we saw in Diven's experiment, whether an experience was recalled by the subject or not, its emotion remained present. Many people have tediously learned that "digging out" painful experiences from their "unconscious" does not cure, any more than a man is healed when we determine that he was hit by a southbound freight, and not by one going north.

Hello,

Do the words above mean:

How a man is healed is irelevant to how he was hit, either by a southbound freight or by a northbound freight?

Likewise, the reason causes the man's emotion trauma is irrelevant to the cure?

I stumble over "any more than".

Thanks!

I think you understood "any more than" correctly. Determining which train hit the man does not heal his injuries. Likewise, digging out painful experiences does not cure the emotional damage that they caused.

Yes, your understanding is correct. However, note that "cure" should have been used transitively in the above; e.g., "cure them".
