Vocabulary

any minute now?

A: You'll have to wait your turn.

B: How long do you think it will be?

A: Any minute now.

I have some questions about the above dialogue.

1. Regarding the red part, I would like to use "wait for your turn". Please advise which is right or normal?

3. I would like to use "take" instead of "be" the green part. Which is right or normal?

2. What does it mean by "any minute now"?

Thanks a lot.

#1 You can use "for", but the normal collocation in this context is "wait your turn". #2 Yes, you could use "take". It would be quite normal, but with your next sentence it does not make as good sense as "be".

No - my reply was in connection with your sample dialogue. I presume that it is about someone waiting for a doctor to see them or something along those lines.

"Any minute now" - yes, very common. "When will the bus come?" "Any minute now." "Will Mummy come soon?" "Any minute now". It could be seen as synonymous with "very soon".
