Yes, Mr. Anonymous. I usually stick to "every" effort, but one of my students wrote "any." I've never seen it used like that, but I just wanted to make sure:) Ah, CJ! How could I? I guess I just have to accept that there are things grammatical rules can't be much of a help:)
