Any do or any does?

should the following sentence read:

. . . provided that if any of my children does not survive me but leaves issue. . .

or

. . . provided that if any of my children do not survive me but leaves issue.

I believe that the sentence should be reworded, but my boss won't let me and insists on the word "does". "Does" would be correct if the sentence read, "provided that if any one of my children does not . . ." blah blah blah. I'll also need a reason and/or the source for proof.

Hang on. This is for a LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT isn't it? I very much doubt that any of us here are qualified to comment on legal English.

  • I'd leave this one to the lawyers, otherwise there could be legal consequences for which I for one would not like to take the blame.

I will agree with you that, in any other context, I would be inclined to change it as yo
