any difference between 'selfish' and 'mean' ?

Is there any difference between these two? 'mean' and 'selfish' (of course in relation to money etc.)

'Mean' is commonly used in relation to money. 'Selfish' is not, it normally has a wider meaning.

mean: you're bad to others

'Mean' is commonly used in relation to money.

If by "mean" you mean "stingy," this is either old-fashioned or British/Canadian. I don't know anyone who uses it this way in current U.S.English.

(edited to change "American English" to "U.S. English", in acknowledgement of the fact that Canada is, after all, in America.)
