Any difference

What is the difference between using 'going to and -ing'?
For example:
Are your parents joing us for dinner?
Are your parents going to join us for dinner?

Are you coming to the party?
Are you going to come to the party?

It seems like they mean the same to me. Pleass advice?

The mean the same to me too. I'd use the shorter versions. They sound like they're asking "What's the plan?", which is what you want for this kind of situation.
