Any day

Hey folks,
Given a sentence like

I'd choose to buy the painting any day

in a context of discussion over which is better to buy, a painting or a certain other piece of art, I wonder if 'any day' is perhaps a colloquial expression meaning 'in any case' or 'either way'? I failed to find that exact phrase on Wiktionary and elsewhere, could you please tell me if that is a valid idiom or if I'm getting it wrong. Thank you very much for your time!

"any day", in this sense, is a reasonably common idiom that emphasises the speaker's certainty about the preceding statement. You can think of it as meaning "in any circumstances", "any time I had to decide".
