Life is full of personalised hardships. My hardship? Well it would be selfish to call it mine since my hardship was shared with millions, probably billions worldwide. It came in the form of the 2008 financial crisis. A few bankers, to gain larger end of the year performance bonuses, struck deals with rating agencies to overrate OCDs and sell them to unsuspecting investors , as a result of the worldwide recession that ensued, I had to leave school 4 months before my IGCSE examinations when my father simply couldn't keep up with the tuition fees. Two years prior to event I was still in the french system. English was my 3rd language and my school days were spent learning ''l'imparfais'', la prise de la Bastille and Jules Ferry . I was set to sit the Brevet the following year and the BAC in 4 year's time ( I left at the end of 4eme which is the equivalent of the 9th grade in the British system hence why I was enrolled in grade 10 the first year of 2 that lead to the IGCSE qualification). Unfortunately due to a change of policy and general dissatisfaction with the school I left for Cambridge School Doha . I had to learn a new language from practically scratch . I persevered and by the end of the 2nd term of grade 10 I broke the language barrier and from then on it was a non-issue. My Dumas became Shakespeare, my Charlemagne became Queen Victoria and I was cherishing every moment of it. After being forced to leave school in late February to due failure to pay the school fees I , to minimize the effects of this on my future , continued studying on my own with plans to sit the IGCSE examinations as a private candidate. It was largely successful I achieved an A* grade two As, three Bs and a D (in ICT , while learning the theoretical aspect on my own was challenging but possible I did not receive training training for the practical papers ) . Unlike me however my father was not able to >word here< his hardship and I could not return to schools for my Advanced Levels. I had two options either enlist in the army or try to self-teach myself the syllabus with the aid of a - once a month - private tutor who has been a savior to me in terms of guidance and advice more than anything else. This ladies and gentlemen is what I am still currently doing , as I write this letter I have my Advanced Levels textbooks which I acquired through amazon in front of me waiting for me to continue learning through them. I have sat the English Language Advanced Subsidiary and achieved a B mark and I am due to sit my Economics,Sociology and History Advanced levels this upcoming October. While I fortunately have not suffered from the loss of a family member or any physical disabilities I have nonetheless suffered from having to learn a new language and subsequently having to self-teach myself these past 2 years. Whether you take them into account or not I leave to your discretion but I feel like my story should be known hence this letter. Thank you for reading. Heitham Saad
