When I was a child, I wonder how possible one could talk to another person far apart. My friends and I used to connect a string between two milk tins and speak to the other party in a form of playing. My interest to acquire knowledge in communication started at this tender age. I remember, I once asked my class three teacher why it is possible talk to another party over a distance and his answer was, there are machines that enable us to do that. In fact I was surprise of his answer and thought within me, what sought of machines could do that without even knowing what a machine is. Years ago in my country, one could queue before getting access to communication systems to reach another party.
I chose to pursue science at my Senior High School level in to qualify me to pursue a career in communication field. When I was told, if I want to learn about communication then I need to pursue into science field despite my parents persuasion to enter into business field. Because of the objection to my father’s choice for me, I had to stay in the house for one term for following my interest and objecting to his commands as it is in Africa. By God grace my mother convinced my father to let me follow my interest. I was given the opportunity to pursue science with a condition that, if I don’t make it to the university that will be the end of their support. I took the condition and came out successfully always having this advice at the back of my mind.
In the past, I realized that all human activities in several fields such as economics, social, construction, mechanical, health and business entities in my country and Africa as a whole lack information communication technology as compared to the developed countries. This is like the heart of the dragon that serves as the driving force to the development of every country. I asked myself what can I do as an individual to help my country and Africa as a whole to bridge this gap of communication constrain. The conclusion I drew was for me to gain knowledge in this field because even if experts from foreign countries should extend aid, they will return to their various roots and the situation will stand still. This discovery stimulated me to pursue my Bachelor degree in Telecommunication Engineering in other to learn further into communication as the interest I developed since childhood.
In choosing this course, I suffered discourage from friends and teachers since my certificate could get me a government fully sponsored course in other areas such as medicine, mining engineering and civil engineering. But I said to myself, I will never forego my interest since I have always aim to be a communication engineer. Presently, I work with Millicom Ghana, one of the telecom giants in the country as IREG and TADING assistant (service Person). Even though my undergraduate program has given me a strong background in the fundamentals of the various communication systems
especially telecommunication, this is not enough for me to achieve my educational career. I have to continue my study to enrich my skills and broaden my knowledge.
I consider myself to be a good candidate to pursue the master’s program because I am young, energetic, hardworking, visionary, and motivated person who believes that, he can do something for the benefit of his country a and Africa if given the opportunity to acquire the needed knowledge. This will give me the opportunity to explore my full potential in the area of research and electronic system integration. I have done my best with maximum effort in all my endeavors to achieve my aim since childhood. I believe, I can do much better if am given the opportunity into the Master of Science in Smart System Integration Program and I will add my quota to the development of my country‘s communication barrier and Africa as a whole through the knowledge and skills I will acquire through the program.
