STATEMENT OF GOALS, RESEARCH INTEREST AND EXPERIENCE

I am xyz, currently employed on a research project at abc, under the WHO-SAGE Program of India. My ambition is to build up a research career dedicated to the field of health sciences addressing problems in medical therapeutics. My curiosity and interest intended for the latest developments and cutting edge technology in this field motivates a deep ambition in me to pursue graduate school education for a PhD degree. I believe, such an education in an academically challenging environment will develop intellectual maturity and technical expertise for a rewarding research career.

My Qualification and Research Experience:

Since childhood, I have developed tremendous fondness for studying science and mathematics as exemplified by my achievement of high grade in high school. I have cultivated a passion for career in science and have always been curious to learn something new and challenging.

The field of biotechnology mystified me with the numerous obscure facts of life it offers to explore and its influence on human lives created an immense curiosity to gain more information into this promising field. The comprehensive curriculum of my undergraduate program in biotechnology including biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology and bioinformatics educated me on completely unfamiliar concepts and made college an enjoyable learning experience. During my undergraduate study I have been associated with research project which has broadened my skill and knowledge base. My first research opportunity presented itself at the end of my sophomore year. Under the guidance of Dr. XYZ, I worked on isolation and characterization of ß- lactamse enzyme from Acenetobacter spp (KEM hospital isolate). My enthusiasm and proficiency of the subject is amply reflected in my performance. Such rewarding undergraduate education created a great degree of pride and determination in me and I decided to devote my career to research in Biological sciences.

To gain a competitive edge in the field, I wanted to acquire further quality education from one of the best biotechnology college of India, ABC. I encompassed myself discovering the intricacies of subjects like Immunology, Tissue Culture, Genetic engineering and Biochemical Engineering whetted by the knowledge imparted by an excellent faculty as well as qualified discussions with my peers. The intensely competitive environment at ABC has always kept me on my toes in a constant endeavor to achieve the best that is possible and I intend to carry this spirit for a lifetime.

The best feature at ABC is indeed the dedicated independent research program in the final year of the curriculum. I was involved in a project entitled “ Genomic library construction of Aegle marmelos” under the guidance of Prof.XYZ, the Head of the Department of Molecular Biology. The work was an
initial pilot project for wider research in medicinal plant genome analysis. This project trained me to plan and execute an assigned problem strategically and qualified me for the hard work and dedication required for wet lab research. The extensive literature survey accompanied by the project dynamics supplemented enormously to my knowledge. My technical experience with different tools of molecular biology like PCR, cloning, DNA sequencing as well as various bioinformatics tools will be a real advantage for my future research endeavors.

Excited with the knowledge earned at college, I decided to continue working on projects exploring various techniques and got an opportunity to fulfill my wishes at ABC, one of the premier research institutes in India, solely dedicated to research and clinical study on HIV and associated diseases.

I have experienced the two faced nature of research work and realized that research is a journey of consistent efforts and perseverance. These experiences have cultivated a mindset ideal to research within me and I am absolutely geared up to take the challenge of a full-time research program.

I intend to achieve graduate education in Germany as it provides the finest and state of the art research facilities in the world, embellished with a multicultural dimension where the best of brains across the globe work together in the scientific fraternity. The strong initiative for designing strategies to manufacture recombinant proteins using various expression systems has generated an immense desire in me to pursue a rewarding career in this field. I look forward to attain an opportunity to contribute to the scientific community through a long mutually beneficial relationship.
