Grammar

(Any)

Hi,

Do you own any cars? / Do you have any vegetables?

I understand that "any" is fine in my examples. What about:

Do you own cars? / Do you have vegetables?

Are these OK too?

The four given sentences are grammatical, and would be used in slightly different situations, for example:

1. I've seen Jim on motorcycles, mopeds, and driving vans and pickup trucks. I've never seen him driving a car. So I ask him: "Do you own any cars."

2. Late at night, I go to a convenience store, which one would not expect to have fresh produce. But I need some
